Our Green Schools Committee held a ceremony in the halla today to celebrate Barefield N.S. being awarded our ninth Green Flag for the Global Citizenship: Travel Theme. Senator Róisín Garvey was a special guest at the event. After Committee members said a few words, Senator Garvey congratulated our pupils and staff on the wonderful achievement.

Senator Garvey has given us great advice on ‘all things green’ over the years. In recent months, she highlighted the challenges our school has faced in securing fibre broadband. Thanks to Senator Garvey’s intervention, fibre broadband will be installed in our school in the coming months. She is also urging Clare County Council to introduce a cycle track going from Ennis to Barefield to ensure that pupils can cycle to school safely.  Senator Garvey was presented with a bouquet of flowers to thank her for the support she has given our school and for the great work she has done for us.

To conclude the ceremony and continue the celebrations, pupils were given homework off for tonight.

Well done to all involved!
