Last year we introduced My Learner ID to pupils in Ranganna III-IV.  My Learner ID, created by Dr. Suzanne Parkinson,  measures learning. It provides feedback to parents and teachers and it encourages pupils to reflect on their own learning so that they can become aware of how they learn, thus empowering them to become lifelong learners.

It is an extremely powerful method of learning and assessment that allows us to explore how the pupil learns and it also allows others, such as parents and teachers, understand the pupil’s learning ways. My Learner ID promotes reflection on how each pupil learns best and actively draws the pupils’ attention to specific strategies which promote learning. The pupils are empowered to become active agents in their own learning. It is like no other book in the child’s school bag in terms of providing an authentic record of the child’s voice, opinions, personality, and learning ways. It is designed to holistically measure learner well-being, encourage learner voice, promote learner ownership and nurture learner responsibility.

My Learner ID is presented in a colourful, interesting, child friendly and age appropriate design. It is easy to incorporate into the teaching day. Parents are very enthused by and excited by the feedback they receive about their child’s development as a whole. Through using My Learner ID, I have witnessed pupils demonstrating deep insights into their own learning and development.  This year we have already decided to extend My Learner ID into Ranganna V-VI for 2018-2019. Involving pupils in their learning is crucial. My Learner ID encapsulates the philosophy of Benjamin Franklyn:

“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn”.
