Board of Management and staff of Barefield N.S. are delighted to announce that children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can now look forward to receiving their primary education in Barefield N.S., where a specialised class for teaching children with autism has now been approved by the Department of Education and Skills.

The ASD classroom will be purpose-designed to meet the needs of children with ASD. This exciting new development will allow for the integration of pupils with autism into mainstream education.

Welcoming the development, Principal John Burns, stated that: ‘the aim at Barefield N.S. is to develop each child holistically to reach his/her full potential. The curriculum in our ASD class will be tailored for individual needs of each pupil and will also work towards and will incorporate the mainstream curriculum, where possible. We are really looking forward to this new development and to catering for the different abilities of all children. We are delighted that we can welcome children with autism from both our local community and surrounding areas.’

Other facilities in Barefield N.S. include a multi-sensory room, speech and language room, a cookery servery area, a sports halla, library, computer room, pitches and an AstroTurf pitch.

Applications for Barefield N.S., including our new ASD Class, are now open for September 2019.
