Last March, we submitted an application to express our interest in becoming involved in the Safe Routes to School programme. The aim of this programme is to:

  1. improve safety at the school gates.
  2. improve access routes to the school.
  3.  increase the number of pupils who cycle to school.

The programme will be delivered using a staggered approach. Schools will be invited into the programme at different stages as part of a rolling programme of delivery. This means that, over time, our school will receive investment.

As part of this programme, we applied for cycle parking. We were awarded a new ten space bicycle rack. This new rack was installed on Thursday in close proximity to our other cycle parking racks on the Junior Yard. This new rack was installed on the grounds of the Barefield Community Hall so that those using the Community Hall will also have access to cycle parking if required.

We are looking forward to the next stage of the Safe Routes to School Programme!
