Today pupils from Rang I and Rang II went on their school tour to Bunratty Castle and Folk Park.
First the children explored the castle, including The Main Guard, the Earl’s Bedroom and the Great Hall where the Earl gave his judgements while sitting in his Chair of Estate. They particularly enjoyed hearing about the ‘murder hole’.
While visiting the houses and farmhouses, we met a thatcher who told us all about the old tradition of thatching. He makes his own tools and gets the reeds he uses from the nearby river.
The Village Street with its Old School House, shops and houses gave the children a great insight into what typical 19th century buildings looked like.
Pupils loved the magic of the Fairy Trail and had lots of fun seeing the animals and playing in the playground.
A great day was had by all!
