Smartphones and tablets are now an “integral part” of the lives of our young people. It is necessary for education to support the development of digital literacy skills to help young people grow into engaged thinkers, active learners and global citizens. The Department of Education and Skills, per Circular 0038/2018: “Consultation with the School Community including teachers, students and parents on the use of smart phones and tablet devices” has requested schools to develop a new “Internet Policy” on the use of smart phones, tablets and video recording devices to support teaching, learning and also the home use of smart devices. This Circular requested schools to consult with teachers, parents and pupils. This consultation was undertaken last term.

As a result of this consultation, a new ‘Internet Use Policy’ has been compiled and approved by our Board of Management, per attached documents. I invite you to read these documents and discuss with your child. Please ensure the appropriate 3 forms for each of your children are signed and return to your child’s respective teacher by Friday, March 1st.

  • Proof of Board of Management Approval, dated 04-02-2019
  • School Rules for Acceptable Internet Use
  • Permission Form to be signed by parents
  • Digital Device Acceptable User Agreement to be discussed at home and signed by your child
  • Family Digital Contract to be discussed at home and to be signed by both parent and child.

Our aim in this process is to ensure our school pupils embrace technology in a safe, age appropriate environment, while also having time to enjoy other social activities and personal development.
