On January 29th 2019, Peter Duggan, Clare hurler, paid a visit to Barefield National School. He was invited to mark the occasion of our school achieving an Active School flag.

Peter is a 25 year old hurler  and he plays his club hurling with Clooney Quin. His position on the field is wing or full forward. He has achieved many great accomplishments in his hurling career.  He won an All Star in 2018, he became the top scorer in the 2018 Hurling Championship, and he also won GPA Player of the Month for July 2018.

The Active Schools Committee then spoke about all the activities we did last year, some of which include cycling, running, dance and yoga. We also had a very successful Active Schools Week and we tried many different sports.

Then it was time to present the medals. Peter presented medals to our girls’ football team and our cross country runners. The Active Schools Committee for 2018/2019 were also presented with certificates for all their hard work.

After the assembly Peter very kindly signed many students’ jerseys and took photos with different classes and The Active Schools Committee. Many thanks to Mr Burns, Ms O’Connor, Mr Duggan and The Active Schools Committee for organising Peter’s visit to our school. We’d also like to wish Peter and the Clare hurling team best of luck in the 2019 league and championship.
