Fifth Class went to Dublin on an educational tour last Friday.

We arrived at Kilmainham Gaol at 11am and were shown around by three very enthusiastic and interesting guides. We visited the cells of famous political prisoners involved in the 1916  Rising, the church where Joseph Mary Plunkett married Grace Gifford hours before his execution. We also saw the Stonebreakers Yard where the executions of the signatories took place.  During our visit we were told many captivating stories from the lives of Kilmainham Gaol’s many prisoners.

After lunch we went to Croke Park, the place where many of us dream to play some day. We visited the players’ lounge, the commentators’ area and the VIP area for the president. We did some warm up activities in the warm-up area before running out the tunnel and entering the pitch. We also climbed to the very top of the Hogan Stand.

It was a fantastic day from beginning to end!
